Abbott Awards Arizona Mother $135,000 in National Similac(R) Contest

Infant formula maker recognizes hard-working moms for the second consecutive year.

ABBOTT

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 13 -- Amy Kaminski, a mom from Tucson, Ariz., is the grand prize winner of $135,000 in the second annual "Similac Mom's Payday" contest, sponsored by Abbott. Kaminski earned the title after her entry was chosen from more than 30,000 photo essays.

According to a recent survey by Salary.com, a typical mom like Kaminski should earn $135,000 per year based on her daily activities -- a $5,000 raise over last year's figure. The Similac Mom's $135K Payday contest invited moms and moms-to-be to submit a photo showing their favorite "mom job," along with a brief caption.

An early childhood educator and owner of the Tucson-based Whole Child Learning Co., Kaminski drew inspiration for her entry from the myriad of activities she performs every day while caring for her 7-month-old daughter and 2-year-old son. Kaminski's entry won over the panel of mom-judges with its witty caption and humorous photo. Her winning caption reads:

All in a day's work: Accountant, activities director, chef, chauffer, counselor, delivery service, dispatcher, emergency responder, financial planner, judge, life coach, maid, music instructor, nurse, personal shopper, photographer, record keeper, rent-a-techie, rodeo clown, secretary, set designer, teacher, travel agent; whatever you call it, this Mom's favorite job is juggling!

Abbott is a global care company engaged in the development, manufacture and marketing of pharmaceuticals and medical products, including nutritionals, devices and diagnostics. The company employs 65,000 people and markets its products in more than 130 countries. |GlobalGiants.com|

Photo: Robert Crowell, National Sales Manager, OSRAM SYLVANIA Display/Optic Division (l.) accepts a Primetime Emmy(R) Engineering Award from actress Maura Tierney of ER(r.). The company was recognized by the Academy of Arts and Sciences for its HMI Metal Halide Technology.

DANVERS, Mass., Sept. 10 -- OSRAM SYLVANIA was honored in Los Angeles by The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for its HMI(R) Metal Halide Lamp Technology with a Primetime Emmy(R) Engineering Award. On behalf of the company, Robert Crowell, National Sales Manager, accepted this highly regarded award in recognition of outstanding achievement in engineering development.

Designed in 1967 by Dr. Bernard Kuhl and Mr. Alexander Dobrusskin, OSRAM HMI lamps offered a safe alternative to the dangerous and widely used carbon arc lights of the time. The technology has since gone on to become a mainstay in the television production industry. OSRAM HMI(R) lamps are powerful, compact discharge light sources that replace the sun, bringing ideal exterior daylight conditions to indoor studios and make exterior locations look like high noon any time of the day or night. Their robust base design and tolerance to high operating temperatures satisfy the demands of modern TV and film lighting, especially in outdoor applications.

The HMI lamp made its first public appearance in 1969 when it was used to light the first color TV transmission in Germany. At the 1972 Munich Olympics, the HMI was the lamp of choice for television broadcasts. In 1988, OSRAM was awarded an OSCAR(R) by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences for the invention and continuous improvement of HMI light sources for motion picture photography. One of HMI's greatest performances came in 1990 when it was chosen to illuminate the wreck of the Titanic for the IMAX film Titanica.

OSRAM SYLVANIA is the North American operation of OSRAM GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens AG. |GlobalGiants.com|
