Nandan Nilekani donates $38.5 Million to support IIT Bombay's Goal of becoming a Global Tech and Engineering Leader.

BANGALORE & MUMBAI, India, June 21, 2023 — Nandan Nilekani, Co-Founder and Chairman of Infosys Ltd. and Founding Chairman of UIDAI, has made a generous donation of USD 38.5 Million to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, marking his 50-year association with the esteemed institution.
IIT Bombay will use the donation to develop world-class infrastructure, support research in emerging areas of engineering and technology, and foster a deep tech startup ecosystem.
This contribution builds on his previous grants of INR 85 Crores to the Institute, bringing the cumulative value of his support to INR 400 Crores.
Nilekani’s alma mater aims to become a global leader among engineering and technology institutes and contribute significantly towards nation-building. This contribution will serve as a significant anchor to achieve this vision.
Nilekani and Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director of IIT Bombay signed the Memorandum of Understanding in Bangaluru. Nilekani joined IIT Bombay in 1973 for a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, and this donation reflects his deep bond and gratitude towards his alma mater.
Director Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri expressed his delight and called it the beginning of a new era for IIT Bombay. Nilekani’s contribution will significantly accelerate the Institute’s growth and inspire others to join the transformative initiative.

New York, June 21, 2023 — During his visit to New York on June 20, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India met with experts from US think tanks to discuss developmental and geopolitical issues. He also met with US academics of Indian origin to explore ways to enhance research collaborations and academic exchanges. Additionally, he met with Elon Musk and invited him to explore investment opportunities in India’s expanding commercial space sector and electric mobility.

Today in New York, USA, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with experts from various leading US think tanks. The group discussed developmental and geopolitical issues, and the Prime Minister invited them to increase their presence in India as it transforms. Among the think-tank experts present were —

Prime Minister Modi also met Mr. Elon Musk, tech pioneer, business magnate, and CEO of Tesla Inc. & SpaceX; owner, CTO, and chairman of Twitter; founder of the Boring Company and X-corp; co-founder of Neuralink and OpenAI.
During their conversation, the Prime Minister expressed his admiration for Mr. Musk’s accomplishments in making technological advancements more accessible and affordable in multiple sectors. He also invited Mr. Musk to explore potential investment opportunities in India’s electric mobility and rapidly expanding commercial space sector.
