FORD INDIA MAKING GAINS IN MARKET WITH HUGE GROWTH POTENTIAL

DEARBORN, Nov. 2006 -- India is on the cusp of enormous economic growth and Ford India is well positioned to capitalize on it, said Arvind Mathew, Ford India president and managing director, in a presentation to employees in Dearborn earlier this year.
Increasing affluence and mobility and a developing infrastructure are driving India's auto industry growth.
India is a "small car" market and Ford India's hottest selling cars are the entry-level Ikon and the upscale Fiesta. The Ikon is marketed to tech-savvy young professionals who are seeking to buy their first car.
"It is an exciting time to do business in India," Mathew said. "The country has one of the largest populations in the world and a massive rising middle class of young professionals for whom owning a car is within reach. The possibilities for growth are astounding."

Industry experts recognize India is one of the key "BRIC" economies driving growth in the automotive sector along with Brazil, Russia and China. According to CSM Worldwide, an auto-industry research firm, vehicle production in India is expected to exceed 1.8 million in 2007, nearly double the output in 2003 and quadruple the output of 10 years ago.
"Demand will remain strong in mature markets like the U.S. and Japan, but nowhere near as strong as the double-digit growth in countries like India," said Maseki Taketani, a director of CSM Worldwide. "Automakers must succeed in India to remain viable in the global market place."
Ford India's focus on customer service and fuel-efficient mid-size cars like the entry-level Ikon and the upscale Fiesta has the company poised for success in the burgeoning market.
"We saw 154 percent growth in sales in September 2006 and 142 percent growth in October," said Scott McCormack, Ford India vice president of Marketing, Sales & Service. "Almost 95 percent of vehicles are financed in India, in part because the country has very high per capita income growth. The perception that you own your car forever is diminishing and the period of ownership is shortening."
With rapid urbanization underway and an increasing number of consumers eager to buy a car, India promises to take center stage alongside economic juggernaut China over the next 10 years.
"India's time has arrived," McCormack said. "Indians believe in themselves and they're confident they'll be a world leader."
This year's India Customer Satisfaction Index Study by J.D. Power Asia Pacific ranked Ford second only to dominant domestic automaker Maruti Suzuki thanks in large part to the success of Ford's Quality Care service program at dealerships.
"The program helps dealers deliver consistent service," said Uma Umashankar, Ford India general manager, Customer Service Organization (CSO). "The program is a source of pride for participating dealers and we're working to implement the program throughout our dealer body.

LOS ANGELES – The General Motors portfolio at the Los Angeles Auto Show continues the company’s ongoing and dramatic product resurgence, with a focus on cars and SUVs that feature sophisticated, globally inspired designs as well as advanced, fuel-saving technologies.
The show will feature all-new entries by Buick, GMC and Saturn – including two of the four hybrid models GM will launch in calendar year 2007, as well as a resurrection of Cadillac’s Platinum Series and special-edition Saab models that commemorate the vehicle brand’s 60 th anniversary. Chevrolet will highlight two hydrogen fuel cell models – the Sequel and the Equinox Fuel Cell – that provide show goers with a glimpse of clean, petroleum-free transportation.
“We always look forward to the L.A. Auto Show because Los Angeles is such an important market for trend-setting cars and trucks,” said GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner, who will kick off media days as the keynote speaker at the Motor Press Guild breakfast. “Besides launching a number of exciting new production cars, trucks and crossovers, we’ll also demonstrate our commitment to addressing fuel economy and environmental concerns with several very important advanced technology vehicles.”
According to the recently issued 2007 EPA Fuel Economy Guide, GM leads the industry with more vehicles that achieve an EPA-estimated 30 mpg or more on the highway. For the 2007 model year, GM offers 23 such vehicles, up from 14 in 2006.

Beijing — Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is debuting the Outlander EX on-road Sport Utility Vehicle at the Beijing Motor Show 2006. The show is being held from November 18 (November 21 for the general public). Also on display are the Lancer Evolution IX high-performance 4WD sports sedan that went on sale in China this October, the Mitsubishi Concept-Sportback that shows how a next-generation sportback concept car may look, and the Eclipse Spyder that is currently selling very strongly in the North American Market.
1. Outlander EX
Outlander, very favorably received in the Japanese and North American markets, is going to go on sale in China in January 2007 with the name Outlander EX.
Outlander EX is the same as the North American market Outlander and will be powered by a new high performance, low emission, low fuel consumption 3-liter V6 MIVEC*2 engine, coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission to deliver outstanding acceleration and high-speed cruising performance. Fully embracing Mitsubishi Motors' All Wheel Control (AWC) concept, Outlander EX uses Mitsubishi's electronically controlled 4WD system that continuously distributes front/rear wheel drive torque in an optimal way according to conditions.
Outlander sits on a next-generation platform that features enhanced stiffness and crashworthiness, together with an aluminum roof panel that lowers the center of gravity; this reduces roll inertia, improves steering response and handling, and reduces body roll and stagger without impacting ride quality. Outlander EX boasts a high level of specification, including a split tailgate that enhances convenience and loading ease. A spare tire is fitted as standard for the Chinese market.
2. Lancer Evolution IX
Lancer Evolution IX, the iconic high performance sport sedan that went on sale in China this October, employs a turbocharged, intercooled 2-liter engine with electronically controlled 4WD system that results in extremely high levels of acceleration, grip and braking. The launch in China follows very successful launches in Japan, North America, and Europe.
3. Mitsubishi Concept-Sportback
Mitsubishi Concept-Sportback shows how a next-generation sportback car may look and was showcased at 2005 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The direction Mitsubishi Motors' design that is set to take in the near future is readily apparent in the concept's exterior. Mitsubishi Motor R&D Europe GmbH (MRDE), located in Germany, created an arresting form that features sporty lines embodying Mitsubishi Motors' sporty DNA, a front visage that gives prominence to the 3-diamond logo, and proportions that give full expression to the vehicle concept.
4. Eclipse Spyder
Eclipse Spyder, sold in the North America Market and produced by Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. (MMNA), is the convertible version of the fourth-generation Eclipse and the third generation of Eclipse Spyder. This sports car has been very favorably received in North America Market.

Alamo Launches First-of-a-Kind Rental Car Check in Kiosks Throughout the U.S.
An Industry First, Kiosk Cuts Average Transaction Time in Half.
An industry first, Alamo Rent A Car announced today it will roll out new self-service kiosks at rental locations throughout the United States. The new system cuts check in time for customers by about 50 percent when compared to average counter check in times.

The kiosk roll out comes after successful testing by customers in Dallas, Las Vegas and Jacksonville, Fla.
The touch-screen kiosk allows any customer with a valid driver's license, major credit card and an existing reservation to skip the rental counter and check in directly at the kiosk. After a customer agrees to the terms and conditions, a receipt-sized rental agreement is printed from the kiosk and the customer is directed to his or her rental car on the lot. At the exit booth, the customer simply shows the booth agent his or her rental agreement and driver's license and then drives away.

FORD S-MAX VOTED CAR OF THE YEAR 2007
BRENTWOOD, Essex, November 13, 2006 - The all-new Ford S-MAX has been awarded the prestigious title of "Car of the Year 2007".
The Car of the Year is an international award, judged by a panel of 58 top motoring journalists from 22 European countries. Its objective is to acclaim the most outstanding new car to go on sale in the 12 months preceding the date of the title. It is organized by a group of seven leading European publications: Auto (Italy), Autocar (Great Britain), Autopista (Spain), Auto Visie (Holland), L'Automobile Magazine (France), Stern (Germany), and Vi Bilagare (Sweden).

The Ford S-MAX was declared the winner following a closely fought competition in which 41 contenders for the award were reduced to a shortlist of just eight – the Citroën C4 Picasso, Fiat Grande Punto, Ford S-MAX, Honda Civic, Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 207, Skoda Roomster and Volvo C30.
Commenting on the award, Ray Hutton, the President of the Car of the Year jury said: "This was a very close contest with all eight of the finalists deserving a place on the shortlist. It is clear from the voting that the jury is impressed by the concept of the Ford S-MAX: a spacious and versatile car that drives like a sports saloon. Its victory is well-deserved."
With UK sales of over 4,000 since its launch in June and with the order bank still growing, S-MAX is proving a huge hit with UK customers. Data from sales so far indicates that over 50 per cent of vehicles being sold are top specification, Titanium models and that a similar percentage are being sold to customers who are new to Ford.
Available in LX, Zetec and Titanium variants, S-MAX shares the latest technology with the all-new Ford Galaxy including new safety systems with optional Interactive Vehicle Dynamics Control (IVDC) and an optional active suspension system. Both vehicles boast a maximum five star Euro NCAP rating. It is also the first production Ford vehicle to feature elements of Ford's "kinetic design" language. Sporty styling expresses energy in motion, emphasizing Ford's dynamic driving capabilities in a more overt way.

Mitsubishi Motors to Unveil All-New Lancer Sports Sedan at 2007 North American International Auto Show
Ninety years after starting car production (with the 1917 Model-A), Mitsubishi has embarked upon its most ambitious automotive project ever through the launch of its first global platform.

Dynamic

New Mitsubishi Motors mono-box minivan to be branded "Delica D:5"

Tokyo, October 30 2006 — Mitsubishi Motors today announced that its new mono-box minivan will be branded the "Delica D:5" (pronounced "dee five") for launch in the Japan market early in 2007.
Mitsubishi Motors' plans for 2006 included three new model launches in its domestic market. The first was the double launch of the new eK Wagon and eK Sports in September 2006, and the second was the new Pajero in October 2006. Both have been a big hit with customers, and further success is expected with the Delica D:5, the third of the planned model launches.

Honda will enhance its ability to match flexible manufacturing capacity with market demand in a move that will make it possible to increase North American production of fuel efficient 4-cylinder Civic models in early 2007 by up to 60,000 units on an annual basis.
Honda began operations in the U.S. in 1959 with the establishment of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Honda's first overseas subsidiary. Honda began U.S. production operations in 1979. Honda has invested more than $8.5 billion in its North American operations with 14 major manufacturing plants, employment of more than 33,000 associates and the annual purchase of more than $16 billion in parts and materials from suppliers in North America.

Ford Designer draws Inspiration from Fashion Industry
Ford designer Anthony Prozzi says that the design of the 2007 Ford Edge’s clean lines and flowing design exemplify the order and organization that people are looking for.

Automotive designers draw their inspiration from a wide array of sources, but Ford designer Anthony Prozzi says the fashion industry is an especially fertile breeding ground.
“As a designer, you have to have a sixth sense to predict what’s going to happen next,” says Prozzi, who worked for fashion maven Donna Karan before joining the design team at Ford. “Fashion is a wonderful barometer because fashion designers are a lot more progressive, and they’re able to move a lot quicker. It takes us years to build a car, but a fashion designer can put a collection together in a few weeks.”
“Look at the ’60s, for example. The decade began with crew cuts and bouffant hairdos, and by middecade, miniskirts, hot pants and go-go boots were commonplace,” he says. “It was an era of counterculture and individualism, and people wanted a car that was a little naughty without being decadent. The Mustang represented that brilliantly. Like the hot pants and go-go boots, it was the antithesis of prim and proper.”
In today’s busy world, Prozzi says, mass clothing retailers such as Target and Banana Republic are responding with high fashion that is versatile and affordable. Ford is responding with the 2007 Edge.

He says the Edge reflects the mood of today’s society.
“These days, everyone’s running around like crazy people. They’ve got kids in school. They’re trying to balance their work life and their personal life. The last thing they want to look at is something that’s disheveled and disorganized,” he says. “People want more order and organization in their lives. Those ideas are represented in the Edge’s clean lines and flowing design.”

HA Schult: "AutoDom" Made From Car Parts From Ford Models Fiesta and Fusion Builds a Bridge From Cologne to New York
COLOGNE, Germany, October 17 -- The "AutoDom" sculpture, a piece of art created by action artist HA Schult together with fifteen Ford-Werke GmbH apprentices in Cologne using parts from Ford Fiesta and Ford Fusion cars, is set to build a bridge between Cologne and New York.

The sculpture, which stands five metres tall and weighs 220 kilos, is on display as of today for two months at Cologne Bonn Airport, after which time it will be flown to New York. HA Schult announced today that the sculpture would be erected against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline in spring 2007 before being auctioned to raise money for the Bloomberg Foundation set up by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The proceeds from the auction will benefit the children and widows of fire-fighters who lost their lives following the September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in 2001.
