India's Tata Motors Unveils $2,500 Car

Tata Motors Car

Tata Motors Car

New Delhi, January 10, 2008 -- Mr. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman of the Tata Group and Tata Motors, today unveiled the Tata 'NANO', the People's Car from Tata Motors that India and the world have been looking forward to. A development, which signifies a first for the global automobile industry, the People's Car brings the comfort and safety of a car within the reach of thousands of families. The People's Car will be launched in India later in 2008.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony at the 9th Auto Expo in New Delhi, Mr. Ratan N. Tata said, "I observed families riding on two-wheelers - the father driving the scooter, his young kid standing in front of him, his wife seated behind him holding a little baby. It led me to wonder whether one could conceive of a safe, affordable, all-weather form of transport for such a family. Tata Motors' engineers and designers gave their all for about four years to realize this goal. Today, we indeed have a People's Car, which is affordable and yet built to meet safety requirements and emission norms, to be fuel efficient and low on emissions. We are happy to present the People's Car to India and we hope it brings the joy, pride and utility of owning a car to many families who need personal mobility."

The People's Car, designed with a family in mind, has a roomy passenger compartment with generous leg space and head room. It can comfortably seat four persons. Four doors with high seating position make ingress and egress easy.

Yet with a length of 3.1 meters, width of 1.5 meters and height of 1.6 meters, with adequate ground clearance, it can effortlessly maneuver on busy roads in cities as well as in rural areas. Its mono-volume design, with wheels at the corners and the powertrain at the rear, enables it to uniquely combine both space and maneuverability, which will set a new benchmark among small cars.

When launched, the car will be available in both standard and deluxe versions. Both versions will offer a wide range of body colors, and other accessories so that the car can be customized to an individual's preferences.

Tata Motors is India's largest automobile company, with revenues of US $ 7.2 billion in 2006-2007. With over 4 million Tata vehicles plying in India, it is the leader in commercial vehicles and the second largest in passenger vehicles. It is also the world's fifth largest medium and heavy truck manufacturer and the second largest heavy bus manufacturer. Tata cars, buses and trucks are being marketed in several countries in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, South East Asia and South America. |GlobalGiants.com|

SISLEY SPRING/SUMMER 2008 WOMEN'S AND MEN'S COLLECTIONS

Sisley plays with the zodiac groups' four elements in its collection for next spring-summer and creates moods with a strong astrological feel.

Sisley

Earth, for people of character, with their feet on the ground, the colours of the earth: dusty grey, sandy yellow, Dolomite pink, earthy brown and clay red. For her, outfits that cling and reveal: shape-hugging dresses, shorts, pedal pushers that are almost leggings, fluid knitwear with deep necklines and overwear in nylon or other fabrics and - so we don't forget the subsoil - metal. For him there's denim and pumice grey, too. Casual outfits with urban bermudas worn with a leather jacket-style barracuda or a waist-length trench coat.

Sisley

Water, giving free rein to imagination and gentleness: impeccable white and subtle pale tones with unexpected contrasts in passion red or ocean blue. For her, a cruise mood in soft slacks and bermudas, casual skirts, chiffon cocktail dresses, minimal coats with lacquer-red belts, faux-leather short jackets for strolling along the quay, and shirt-styled jackets. He adapts to the mood, dressing with "instinctive" elegance: white or blue suits, cotton windcheaters or jackets.

Sisley

Air, with our head in the clouds and a light heart. "Airy" colours with sunset accents; textured fabrics and aerostatic volumes. She favours 40s-style trousers, blouses with statement sleeves and bows at the waist, halter tops, fluid jersey dresses printed with stylised drops which fell from a plum or cornflower-blue sky. He turns serious and wears a technical-taffeta trench coat, a pinstripe suit, leather jacket, a tie and a pullover (with a classic or slanting diamond pattern) to protect against sudden gusts of wind.

Fire, a concentration of overpowering passions and allure: intriguing black, glistening bronze, radiant ivory. Her leading articles are: faux-leather jackets, crocodile-print mini-dresses and knitwear with huge sleeves. The others are in keeping with the theme: burn-out sheerness, plunging necklines, patent "glints", chintz and zips. He is dark and handsome dressed in black or marron glacé: his outfits are casual, relaxed, layered and even floral. |GlobalGiants.com|

SYLVANIA Applauds Energy Bill Lighting Efficiency Standards

New law will give Americans more energy-saving choices

OSRAM SYLVANIA

OSRAM SYLVANIA, the maker of SYLVANIA lighting products, has announced its support for the energy bill being signed into law by President Bush. The legislation calls for a phase-out of inefficient light bulbs, starting in 2012. The new law is expected to increase demand for energy saving lights, resulting in new products and lower prices.

OSRAM SYLVANIA and its parent company pioneered the compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulb and together rank as the world's second-largest producer of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The company produces more than 50 different ENERGY STAR-rated light bulbs, including dimmable, 3-way and globe-shaped CFL designs, as well as the SYLVANIA Micro Mini Twist bulb, the smallest CFL available in North America.

A 13-watt SYLVANIA Micro Mini Twist CFL produces the same amount of light as a 60-watt incandescent bulb, while using 75 percent less energy and saving about $50 in energy costs. By using less energy, CFLs reduce CO2 emissions from power plants and help fight global warming. |GlobalGiants.com|

Daimler Chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche presents smart fortwo to Representatives of U.S. Government and Business

SmartFortwo

Washington, D.C. - At a traditional luncheon with prominent speakers hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, Daimler Chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche presented the smart fortwo to representatives of U.S. businesses and government as an environmentally friendly solution for future mobility. Starting in January, the compact model, which has already been very successful in Europe with about 850,000 units sold, will also be available in the U.S.

In his presentation to the high-profile audience in Washington, Dr. Zetsche expressed his conviction that the smart fortwo will be a resounding success in the U.S. as well. The reason is that the smallest model produced by Mercedes-Benz Cars is a standout -- not only because of its unique compact design and intelligent, safety-oriented construction, but also thanks to its low fuel consumption and exemplary environmental friendliness. "Europeans are enthusiastic about the smart and we are beginning to see Americans share this enthusiasm," said Dr. Zetsche. "More than 50,000 Americans have already tested the smart in our U.S. road show, and over 30,000 of them have by now reserved a vehicle."

Zetsche added that he could well imagine a large-scale project in cooperation with a partner city in the U.S. to test the electrically powered smart fortwo, similar to the project that is currently running in London. Interested guests were able to experience the "zero-emission" smart fortwo at first hand during the event and form their own impressions through test drives. |GlobalGiants.com|
