French Car Maker Renault celebrates its Love Story with Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival is joining forces with Renault for the 71st edition of the event, taking place between May 8 and 19, 2018. 300 Renault vehicles - 170 Renault Espace and 130 Talisman will constitute the official fleet. A “brand image” fleet will also be present, with Renault Trafic SpaceClass, New Renault Koleos, and the electric touch of Zoé and Twizy. Based on a schedule spanning the entire fortnight, drivers will take VIPs for film viewings and interviews, from the Croisette promenade to the red carpet. Over 20,000 journeys will take place during the Festival.
Since 1983, Renault is the official partner of the Cannes Film Festival.
The line-up for Cannes 2018 includes 18 films with the spotlight on France, Asia, and Italy. Directors, such as Jean-Luc Godard, Christophe Honoré, Spike Lee, Jafar Panahi, Lee Chang-Dong, and Kore-Eda Hirokazu are back on the scene. The festival will open on May 8 with Asghar Farhadi’s Todos lo Saben (Everybody Knows) starring Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem.

World Photography Organisation names Alys Tomlinson Photographer of the Year

The World Photography Organisation has named the overall winners of the prestigious 2018 Sony World Photography Awards at a London ceremony.
The jury has selected Alys Tomlinson, a London-based photographer, for the coveted Photographer of the Year title for her series Ex-Votos (religious offerings) found at pilgrimage sites of Lourdes (France), Ballyvourney (Ireland) and Grabarka (Poland). The jury praised her work for its beautiful production, technical excellence, and sensitive illustration of pilgrimage as a journey of discovery and sacrifice to a higher power.
2018 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London will display Tomlinson’s work.

India's National Film Awards for 2017 Announced

India’s 65th National Film Awards 2017 were announced today by the Chairpersons of the juries on Feature Films, Best Writing on Cinema and members of Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Non-Feature films. The Feature Film Central panel was headed by Shekhar Kapur, an eminent filmmaker known for his works in Hindi cinema and international cinema. The Non- Feature Film panel was headed by Nakul Kamte and the Best Cinema on Writing jury by Anant Vijay. The National Film Awards would be presented by Hon’ble President of India on May 3rd, 2018. The Jury Chairpersons of the 65th National Film Awards submitted its report to the Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Smriti Zubin Irani.
Veteran Hindi film actor Vinod Khanna was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian Cinema. Other prominent winners in various categories for this year National Film Awards included Assamese movie ‘Village Rockstars’ in Best Feature Film category and ‘Baahubali - The Conclusion’ in the Best Popular Film providing Wholesome Entertainment category. Indira Gandhi Award For Best Debut Film of a Director was given to the Jasari language movie ‘Sinjar’ directed by Pampally. Marathi Movie ‘Dhappa’ was awarded the Nargis Dutt Award For Best Feature Film On National Integration. Riddhi Sen and Sridevi got the award for the Best Actor (movie- Nagarkirtan) and Best Actress award (movie- Mom) respectively.
Best Film Critic award was given to Giridhar Jha for his writings covering vast horizon of Hindi cinema with authenticity and originality. Special Mention Award was given to the Sunil Mishra for his articles on cinema. Best Book on Cinema award was given to ‘Matmagi Manipur-The first Manipuri Feature Film’ authored by Bobby Wahengbam.
Special Jury Award in the Feature category was given to the movie ‘Nagarkirtan’ directed by Kaushik Ganguly and produced by Sani Ghose Ray. The best Children’s film was given to the Marathi Movie Mhorkya, directed by Amar Bharat Deokar. A.R Rahman was awarded the Best Music Direction award for the movie ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’.

Penelope Cruz stars in Asghar Farhadi’s new film, Todos Lo Saben — Everybody Knows, which is the opening film to be screened at the 71st Festival de Cannes.
This year’s forthcoming Festival de Cannes will open with a screening of Asghar Farhadi’s new film Everybody Knows (Todos Lo Saben) in Competition at the Grand Théâtre Lumière in the Palais des Festivals on Tuesday 8 May. This psychological thriller stars Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem from Spain and Ricardo DarÃn from Argentina.
Meanwhile, the Official Selection of the Films for the 71st Festival de Cannes (8 to 19 May 2018) was announced today during a press conference.

India's Minister of Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar, Releases ‘NIRF India Rankings 2018’ for Higher Education Institutions

New Delhi, India. April 03, 2018. In a programme held in New Delhi today, India’s Human Resource Development Minister, Prakash Javadekar, released the National Institutional Ranking framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2018 in various categories on the basis of performance of Higher Educational Institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Prakash Javadekar said that the idea behind these rankings is to promote quality in education and encourage competition to perform better and to set up new benchmarks of performance in Higher education space.
While Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru bags 1st Position in Overall Ranking, IIT Chennai tops in Engineering, and IIM Ahmedabad tops in Management Category.
