University Grants Commission of India (UGC) asks University Vice-Chancellors and College Principals to look after the Mental Health and Psycho-Social Concerns of the Student Community in the wake of the COVID-19.
New Delhi, April 6, 2020 — In a letter to the university vice-chancellors and college principals issued today, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked them to take the following measures for the mental health, psycho-social aspects and well-being of the students during and after COVID-19.
- Reassure the student community to avoid any stress or panic in the prevailing situation.
- Set up University / College Helplines, which are regularly monitored and managed by Counsellors, for the mental health, psycho-social concerns, and well-being of the students.
- Reach students through telephones, e-mails, digital, and social media platforms and mentor them to stay relaxed and stress-free.
- Organize COVID-19 help groups of students, headed by hostel wardens / senior faculty, and ask students to identify friends/classmates in need of immediate help.
- Share video links of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare with students via e-mail and social media like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter.
