CHANDIGARH, India, June 27, 2020 — Chandigarh University has launched the Financial Aid Scheme worth Rs. 48 Crore to help the deserving and meritorious students from any part of India so that they can fulfill their aspiration to get quality higher education. The CU Financial Aid Scheme was today launched in Chandigarh by the University’s Chancellor, Satnam Singh Sandhu.

While launching the Chandigarh University Financial Aid Scheme, Satnam Singh Sandhu said, “Getting access to quality education is a fundamental right of every student. Financial constraints should not pose any hindrance in the path of deserving and meritorious students. The newly launched scheme follows the financial assistance policies extended by top Universities in Western Countries like the USA, UK, Canada, to attract the best of talent across the world.” Chandigarh University Financial Aid Scheme is the first of its kind in India. It would offer Financial Aid on merit on first-come-first-serve basis applicable to all the 109 Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate programs provided by the University for 2020 academic batch. CU Chancellor further added that “Currently the world is going through challenging times due to COVID-19 crisis. It has resulted in massive job losses or salary cuts across the sectors, which may impact students’ education.” The 48 crore Financial-Aid Scheme will offer financial assistance up-to 100% to the deserving students who have the zeal to learn, but their parents do not have enough funds to support them, added Sandhu.

Chandigarh University Chancellor also launched an online portal where the students can apply for financial assistance. Explaining the process, Satnam Sandhu said, “The student needs to register with his or her credentials through the online portal. A committee comprising of senior authorities of the University would scrutinize the application and recommend the quantum of financial aid. The institution would, through the online portal, automatically communicate to the student the recommended amount of financial aid.”

Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu further said, “In addition to above, Chandigarh University has signed MoUs with a consortium of Public and Private Sector Banks which will offer collateral-free education loans to the students. Chandigarh University will offer all possible support to get the banks’ education loan processed in the shortest possible time for which the University has established a new department of Financial Assistance.”

Chandigarh University, located near Chandigarh, is a NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) A+ Grade institution. CU offers more than 109 UG and PG programs in engineering, management, pharmacy, law, architecture, journalism, animation, hotel management, commerce, and other disciplines.
