Droupadi Murmu takes Oath as the 15th President of India; Becomes the Country's first Tribal President.

Droupadi Murmu becomes the country’s first tribal President. First, the Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana, administered the Oath. A 21-gun salute followed it. The President then addressed the nation. “It is a tribute to the power of our democracy that a daughter born in a poor house in a remote tribal area can reach the highest constitutional position in India,” she said in her speech.
