London, September 27, 2023 — Oxford University has again demonstrated exceptional performance by securing the top position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the eighth consecutive year. The University’s achievement is a testament to the impactful research and excellent teaching standards that have earned it a reputation as one of the world’s most distinguished institutions of higher learning.
Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) follow the University of Oxford. They are placed second and third in the THE World Rankings 2024.
The rankings, announced in Sydney, Australia, evaluated 1,904 universities from 108 countries worldwide.
Professor Irene Tracey, the Vice-Chancellor of Oxford, expressed her joy at the University’s ranking and commended her colleagues for making the institution an exceptional place of learning.
Phil Baty, THE’s chief global affairs officer, recognized the University of Oxford’s outstanding achievement, stating that the University’s consistent performance across all 18 performance indicators is unparalleled in the history of the World University Rankings.
The rankings evaluate universities based on their performance in teaching, research, international outlook, and industry links. Oxford University excelled in all areas, particularly in a research environment and quality, education, and industry, based on the frequency with which its research is cited in patents.
This announcement follows Oxford getting number 1 rank in the inaugural European QS rankings, further consolidating its position as a leading institution of higher learning.
