NEW YORK, October 5, 2023 — Fortune Magazine has released its annual list of the Most Powerful Women in Business for the year 2023. The list includes 100 leading businesswomen from various industries: finance, tech, healthcare, telecom, retail, and energy. It features both established and rising leaders from around the globe.

This year’s list is the first to honor 100 women worldwide. It recognizes top executives’ work, which spans the planet, and the increasing number of women leading companies on the Fortune 500 and the Fortune Global 500.

The list includes 67 women who hold the title of CEO, some of whom only recently stepped into their positions. Among them are Margherita Della Valle, the CEO of British telecom Vodafone; Sandy Ran Xu, who took over JD.com in China; and Vanessa Hudson, who assumed the CEO role at Qantas in Australia. All three are the first women to hold their respective positions.

Other women on the list are making a significant impact early in their careers, for example, Mira Murati, the Chief Technology Officer at OpenAI, and Susan Li, Meta’s CFO. Some executives are leading the world’s most valuable startups, such as Kim Kardashian, the co-founder of the $4 billion shapewear line Skims.

The business world demands change, and women leaders are meeting the moment. When CEOs step down, women are getting called to replace them in more significant numbers. In the first half of 2023, 106 CEOs worldwide left their jobs. Of the CEO replacements, 13% were women, up from 2.4% in 2018.
