NEW YORK, November 10, 2023 — Gopi Diwali at Times Square, presented by KIA, lit up the heart of Times Square, celebrating cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The real message of Diwali is to dispel inner darkness through the light of knowledge. The festival of Diwali aims to illuminate the inner self and foster unity, enlightenment, love, peace, and harmony for a more peaceful world.

The Gopi Diwali at Times Square, presented by KIA, celebrated cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion. The New York City event brought together people from diverse backgrounds, prioritizing education to promote unity and diversity. It also included children, teaching them to be responsible citizens, compassionate individuals, and good neighbors.

During the event, the grand Diya lighting ceremony drew distinguished guests, including NYC Mayor Eric Adams, Senator Chuck Schumer, Deputy Mayor Meera Joshi, Consul General of India Randhir Jaiswal, Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar, Justice Karen Gopee, and other esteemed dignitaries.

The festival showcased various performances representing different communities, including South Asian, Indo-Caribbean, Dominican Folk Dance, and Afro-Latino groups.

The Diwali festival in Times Square has been a tradition since 2013; this year, it celebrated the Diversity of India and America. NYC Mayor Eric Adams declared October 28 as Diwali Day, and the event honored outstanding individuals with awards.

The “Light Up Concert” featured Bollywood star Mika Singh, Indian American sensation Shuba, and local talents, exuberantly celebrating cultural diversity.

Diwali is all about spreading joy and expressing love and respect for your family, friends, and the community you live in. People decorate their homes during the festival, exchange sweets and gifts with their loved ones, and come together to celebrate.
