New Delhi, June 23, 2023 — Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Minister, expressed his appreciation for the commitment made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and American President Joe Biden to strengthen the strategic partnership between universities in their respective countries.

According to Mr. Pradhan, the recently launched India-US initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology is expected to usher in a new phase of collaboration and accelerate outcomes, given the significant talent pool in India and the US, particularly in emerging technologies and the synergies created by R&D centers of excellence in academic institutions.

The Minister stated that a Joint Task Force, consisting of top IITs and IISc, has been engaged in discussions with the Association of American Universities to this effect.

He further revealed that the Education Ministry would work to establish Indo-U.S. Global Challenge Institutes, in line with the vision of both leaders, to deepen research partnerships and people-to-people exchanges in various areas, including semiconductors, sustainable agriculture, clean energy, health, and pandemic preparedness, and emerging technologies.

Mr. Pradhan expressed his delight that this partnership, which includes industry collaboration and startup enablers, will facilitate the free flow of ideas, student exchange, and joint IPRs, and contribute to developing solutions for a sustainable and secure future.

He added that this is a historic moment when two powerful nations are joining hands in education and research, which will undoubtedly have a global impact in the future.
