Mumbai, April 18, 2023 — After a strong sales year in 2022, Porsche India is delivering on its promise to expand its retail network — the inauguration of five new facilities in one week is a keystone element in its strategic growth plan.

New Porsche showrooms in Bengaluru and Chennai and newly renovated and reopened sites in Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai were commemorated in back-to-back ceremonies during the week of 10 to April 15, 2023, to expand the existing network in India. The expansion brings the total number of Porsche showrooms to eight. In addition, there is a Porsche Studio in Delhi.

Dr. Manfred Bräunl, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE, said the rollout is an example of the assurance made by Porsche India to exceed market expectations and deliver Porsche levels of customer experience to an expanding market.

Bräunl added, “India is an important market for Porsche. Porsche has been India’s fastest-growing automotive luxury brand over the last few years, making network development a priority.”

“The expansion of our Indian network underlines that customer centricity is at the core of our strategy for this market. The inauguration of these five Porsche showrooms is in line with our mandate to continue expanding our retail footprint across the country based on increasing customer demand,” he elaborated.

Manolito Vujicic, Brand Director, Porsche India, said the new dealerships had initiated operations with a total commitment towards its customers and prospects using state-of-the-art facilities and highly trained staff.

“These new showrooms demonstrate our commitment to expanding our presence in key markets and delivering an exceptional customer experience,” he explained.

“We can now provide a seamless experience and ease of accessibility for all prospective customers nationwide. Again, we thank our stakeholders for helping us deliver such an ambitious target on time.”

The new showrooms intend to give visitors an immersive experience showcasing Porsche’s history and its engineering, safety, performance, connectivity, and efficiency innovations. These will set the theme for future locations across the sub-continent catering to a larger yet still niche market, including three new dealers appointed last year as the basis for its roadmap to future growth.

“Our Bengaluru and Chennai facilities are new from the ground up, while the Mumbai and Ahmedabad locations are major upgrades of existing facilities on their present sites,” Vujicic remarked. “Our new investor in Kolkata has taken the same location where the previous Porsche Centre used to stand many years back and completely overhauled it so that it’s now considered a new facility ready to be inaugurated.”

Porsche India enjoyed its best-ever sales performance in 2022, with a 64 percent growth over the previous year, as the all-new electric Taycan completed its first full year of sales. Buyer interest remained strong across its SUV and sports cars segments, with a 69 percent growth in the sales of SUV models highlighted by the top-selling Cayenne.

The Wealthiest Cities in the World in 2023.

Wealthy Cities

Photo: The wealthiest cities in the world in 2023 compiled by Henley & Partners.

LONDON, April 18, 2023 — When it comes to the number of resident millionaires, cities in the USA and China dominate the World’s Top 10 Wealthiest Cities, while only one European city, namely London, makes it onto the 2023 list published today by international investment migration firm Henley & Partners in partnership with global wealth intelligence firm New World Wealth.

• Wealthiest Cities

New York City wears the crown as the wealthiest in the world with 340,000 millionaires, while two other American wealth hubs — the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles — come in 3rd and 6th places, with 285,000 and 205,400 resident high-net-worth individuals, respectively. (HNWIs have an investable wealth of over USD 1 million, and all figures are rounded to the nearest 100.)

Tokyo, which led the pack ten years ago, falls to 2nd place with 290,300 millionaires, and London, the wealthiest city in the world for many years, drops down to 4th place with 258,000 resident HNWIs. City-state Singapore, widely regarded as the most business-friendly city in the world and one of the top destinations for migrating millionaires, sits in 5th place with 240,100 resident millionaires. In comparison, Sydney comes in 10th place with 126,900 millionaires. Home to some of the world’s most exclusive residential suburbs, Sydney has experienced robust wealth growth over the past 20 years and is projected to break into the global Top 5 wealthiest cities by 2040.

China has three cities in the Top 10, with Hong Kong (129,500 millionaires), Beijing (128,200), and Shanghai (127,200) taking 7th, 8th, and 9th places, respectively. Beijing and Shanghai have climbed the rankings over the past decade, but Hong Kong has taken a tumble, dropping from 4th place in 2012 down to 7th place currently.

Dr. Juerg Steffen, CEO of Henley & Partners, says, “7 of the Top 10 wealthiest cities in the world are in countries that host formal investment migration programs and actively encourage foreign direct investment in return for residence or citizenship rights.”

• Fastest Growing Cities

The US and China also dominate the Top 10 list of “fastest-growing cities” for resident millionaires over the past decade. One of China’s most enduringly popular holiday spots, Hangzhou, tops the charts with a millionaire growth of 105% between 2012 and 2022. Shenzhen and the port city of Guangzhou also enjoyed significant HNWI expansion, at 98% and 86%, respectively. The three fastest-growing millionaire hotspots in the US are Austin (102% growth in resident HNWIs), West Palm Beach (90%), and Scottsdale (88%). India has two cities in the Top 10 — Bengaluru (88%) and Hyderabad (78%) — and the final two places go to the UAE’s cultural hub Sharjah (84%) and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam (82%) which is fast emerging as Asia’s next big wealth hub.

Head of Research at New World Wealth, Andrew Amoils, says traditional wealth magnets have experienced solid growth over the last decade. “Arguably the world’s top haven for the super-rich, the average wealth of a person living in Monaco exceeds USD 10 million, making it the top-ranked city on a wealth per capita basis. But unfortunately, it is also the world’s most expensive, with apartment prices exceeding USD 35,000 per square meter. Dubai is another leading international wealth center, with its low tax rates making it a magnet for migrating millionaires from all over the world. Approximately 3,500 high-net-worth individuals moved to the city in 2022 alone.”

IMF Roundtable

Washington, DC, April 12, 2023 — The Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable (GSDR) met today and discussed debt sustainability and restructuring challenges and how to address them. At the end of the meeting, the International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, World Bank Group President David Malpass, and Indian Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman, co-chairs of the GSDR, released the following statement.

“The Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable (GSDR) met today and discussed debt sustainability and restructuring challenges and ways to address them. We are grateful to all the participants, including Paris Club and non-Paris Club creditors, debtor countries, and private sector representatives. The discussion focused on the actions that can be taken now to accelerate debt restructuring processes and make them more efficient, including under the G20 Common Framework.

We agreed on the importance of urgently improving information sharing, including on macroeconomic projections and debt sustainability assessments, at an early stage of the process. Accordingly, the IMF and World Bank will rapidly issue staff guidance on information sharing at each step of the restructuring process.

The meeting discussed the role of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) in these processes by providing net positive flows of concessional finance. In addition, the conference welcomed the International Development Association’s (IDA) provision of positive net flows and the ex-ante implicit debt relief through increased concessions and grants to countries facing higher risks of debt distress.

To clarify critical concepts to support the predictability and fairness of debt restructuring processes, a workshop will be organized in the following weeks on assessing and enforcing the comparability of treatment. Moreover, further work will be undertaken on principles regarding cut-off dates, formal debt service suspension at the beginning of the process, treatment of arrears, and perimeter of debt to be restructured, including concerning domestic debt. This work will also help in clarifying potential timetables to accelerate debt restructurings.

The IMF, World Bank, and the G20 Presidency will continue to work closely with other partners to support the international response to current debt challenges.”

Participants in the meeting included the three co-chairs (International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and India as G20 Presidency), official bilateral creditors (China, France as chair of the Paris Club, Japan, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, United States), debtor countries (Ecuador, Ethiopia, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Zambia), Brazil as the forthcoming 2024 G20 Presidency and private sector representatives (Institute of International Finance, International Capital Markets Association, BlackRock, Standard Chartered).

Austin, Texas, April 12, 2023 — The Ducati Lenovo Team has arrived in Austin, Texas, to contest the third round of the 2023 MotoGP season, the Grand Prix of The Americas, at the famous Circuit of The Americas.

The U.S. track hosted the World Championship for the first time in 2013 and, with its over 5 kilometers, is one of the fascinating tracks on the calendar. Ducati has so far achieved seven podiums at COTA, most notably the victory scored by Enea Bastianini last year with the Desmosedici GP of the Gresini Racing team. However, the rider from Rimini, still recovering from a right shoulder injury suffered in the Portuguese GP, will not participate in the American event this year and will be replaced by Michele Pirro, the official test rider for the Borgo Panigale manufacturer.

2022 World Champion Francesco Bagnaia arrives in the United States determined to redeem himself after crashing in Argentina in second position and finishing the race sixteenth. Bagnaia currently boasts a third place as his best result in Austin, achieved in 2021 after starting from the pole.

Francesco Bagnaia (#1, Ducati Lenovo Team):
“I am happy to be back on track in Austin this weekend. The GP of the Americas is one of my favorite events, and the circuit is exceptional. We have always been fast here and can do well again this year.”

Michele Pirro (#51, Ducati Lenovo Team):
“I will do my best and give my all for Ducati. I only raced once at the Circuit of The Americas in 2016 to replace Petrucci, so I have no particular ambitions. The goal will be to improve each session and be as close as possible to the leaders.”

MUMBAI, India, April 11, 2023 — The Natural Diamond Council (NDC) is back with the bold third edition of their Jewellery Trend Report, offering connoisseurs an insight into what is in vogue this season. The year’s overarching theme is ‘Maximalism.’ It is bound to captivate audiences worldwide, show-stopping the red carpets and being the favored glamour choice during the festive seasons, NDC remarked. Maximalism is about living life unapologetically, which has been identified as the ruling influence this season by NDC’s Style Collective. Featuring experts across genres like design, fashion, and journalism, the members of the erudite Style Collective include Rhea Kapoor, HH Maharani Radhikaraje Gaekwad of Baroda, Bibhu Mohapatra, Roohi Oomerbhoy Jaikishan, Katerina Perez, Sarah Royce-Greensill and Nonita Kalra.

The report identifies three main trends to embody the philosophy of great styles and being unafraid to be seen this year while staying rooted in sustainable slow fashion. The report says that this year, the designs that are headlining the ensemble are — Boisterous Earrings and Chokers, Diamonds with Gemstones, and Modern Solitaire.

The larger-than-life XXL Earrings & Chokers, glittering with natural diamonds, are a diamond lover’s dream. A more substantial take on traditional jewelry, they, quite literally, offer accessories and style statements.

The second trend, Diamonds with Gemstones, embraces the playful side of natural diamonds by complimenting them with colorful gemstones.

Modern Solitaire is a contemporary take on the classic, representing the entire theme of maximalism through the ‘power of one’ with large glistening jewels that allow the wearer to go all out. Commanding attention as the light hits them, these solitaires have what it takes to be the life of the party.

Richa Singh, Managing Director of Natural Diamond Council India & The Middle East, said, “Our 2023 jewelry trend report celebrates the rising desire to be your unique self and live in the now. Trends, by their inherent nature, are dichotomous and cyclical, but what remains constant is our love for jewelry. Under the umbrella of living maximal, natural diamond jewelry helps consumers find a physical expression of their individuality. The third edition of our jewelry trend report combines Avant-Garde, color, and larger-than-life pieces that make you feel special. This report reflects the current consumer outlook and is a product of some of the best minds in design and fashion. It gives key insights into the world of diamond jewelry and its evolution as a symbol of slow fashion over time and generations.”

The Natural Diamond Council (NDC) inspires and informs consumers about the incredible world of natural diamonds through its Only Natural Diamonds platform. The platform is the authoritative publisher of all things natural diamonds, including celebrities and pop culture, epic diamonds and jewelry trends, engagements and weddings, and diamond buying guides.

Natural Diamond Council (NDC) is a global organization mainly operating in the US, China, India, and Europe.

At the Lamborghini Lounge NYC in the heart of the Chelsea Arts District, Lamborghini revealed the highly anticipated Revuelto to eager guests at an exclusive celebration. Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, was joined by loyal customers, VIPs, and the media.

“As the company’s top sales market, it was important for Lamborghini to bring the Revuelto to the U.S. for our top customers to see for themselves just one week after the global debut,” said Winkelmann. “As the fastest, most technologically advanced, and most customizable Lamborghini in history, customer demand has been robust. The first presentation took place in an exceptional venue, the recently-opened GT Sporting Activities Department located alongside the Fiorano track, further strengthening the inextricable link between Maranello’s road-going sports cars and the peerless racing DNA developed as a result of over seven decades of success on the world’s circuits.

The launch began with the 812 Competizione completing several laps of the circuit to give viewers a full appreciation of the car’s forms in this dynamic and high-performance context and, of course, to hear the unmistakable sound of Ferrari’s iconic naturally-aspirated V12 engine. After the hot laps, Enrico Galliera, Ferrari’s Chief Marketing & Commercial Officer, officially presented the car.

This car is dedicated to a very exclusive group of collectors and enthusiasts of the noblest of Ferrari traditions, which focuses on uncompromising maximum performance. The innovative technological concepts applied to the engine, vehicle dynamics, and aerodynamics have raised the bar to new heights.

The 812 Competizione’s personality sets it very clearly apart from the 812 Superfast in its proportions and proper balance. Dictionary.Com adds over 1,500 New, Updated, and Revised Words to the World's Premier Catalog of the English Language.

The dictionary’s new terms and meanings reflect the multiverse-like complexity of modern life: they are at once serious (self-coup, rage farming, trauma dumping), amusing (petfluencer, hellscape), and everything in between (liminal space)

Dictionary

OAKLAND, Calif., March 1, 2023 — Dictionary.com, the leading online and mobile English-language educational resource, announced 313 new entries and 130 new definitions for existing entries today, and 1,140 revised definitions as the dictionary works to keep pace with the ever-changing English language.

Some of the key themes and words in its update include a multiverse of vocabulary (cakeage, nearlywed, hellscape); modern problems (pinkwashing, cyberflashing); identity (WOC, latine, anti-fat); pop culture and slang (petfluencer, fan service, tifo); politics and current events (self-coup, woke, cakeism); health (988, subvariant, microdosing); gaming (render, asset, spec); and even bread (dosa, bhakri, paratha).

One of the most notable updates includes the adjustment of the primary headword, anti-Semitism, to antisemitism. As explained in the new usage note at the entry, Dictionary.com’s decision to use the closed (no hyphen) and entirely lowercase spelling antisemitism for the primary headword reflects the widely preferred single word form that Jewish groups, and many style guides, including those of leading publications, have also adopted. This change does not involve a new definition; the word always means “discrimination against or prejudice or hostility toward Jews.”

Other vital additions include various new terms that have emerged to capture the specificity of phenomena shaped and accelerated by online culture and digital discourse, especially for behaviors considered toxic or harmful, including rage farming, trauma dumping, and queerbaiting.

“Language is, as always, constantly changing, but the sheer range and volume of vocabulary captured in our latest update to Dictionary.com reflects a shared feeling that change today is happening faster and more than ever before,” said John Kelly, senior director of editorial at Dictionary.com. “Our team of lexicographers is documenting and contextualizing that unstoppable swirl of the English language—not only to help us better understand our changing times but how the times we live in change, in turn, our language.”

Words define every aspect of our lives, from ideas to identities. Dictionary.com aspires to empower every person of every background, to express themselves, make connections, and open the door to opportunity through the power and joy of language. Dictionary.com is the premier destination to learn, discover, and have fun with the limitless world of words and meanings. The brand helps you make sense of the ever-evolving English language so you can put your ideas into words—and your comments into action.

When other eagles drag freshly caught salmon from the water, these bystanders swoop in to take a share. “Hours of observing their patterns and behavior helped me capture moments like these,” says photographer Karthik Subramaniam, a software engineer passionate about wildlife photography. WASHINGTON, DC (February 20, 2023) - Karthik Subramaniam, an Indian-origin software engineer in the US and a hobbyist photographer, has won the prestigious National Geographic’s “Pictures of The Year” award with his photograph titled “Dance of the Eagles.”

Selected from nearly five thousand entries, National Geographic today revealed the grand-prize winner of the Pictures of the Year photo contest. Tied to the brand’s annual Pictures of the Year list featuring National Geographic’s top images of the year — 118 out of more than 2 million total — the photo contest invited aspiring photographers from across the country to submit their favorite image captured in 2022, broken into four categories: Nature, People, Places and Animals.

After a rigorous vetting process by a team of seasoned Nat Geo photo editors, Karthik Subramaniam’s “Dance of the Eagles” photo was named grand-prize winner. The software engineer-turned-hobbyist photographer’s winning image depicts a bald eagle battling its fellows for a prime spot on a tree in the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve in Alaska.

“Every November, hundreds of bald eagles gather at Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve near Haines, Alaska, to feast on salmon. I visited there last two Novembers to photograph them,” says Subramaniam. “Studying their behavior patterns helped me anticipate some of their actions. For example, when an eagle drags salmon to a dry spot, other eagles would inevitably fly there to claim their share, leading to chaotic action. They also seemed to have some favorite spots to hang out, and usually, commotion ensues when an eagle wants an already occupied spot. This photo was taken during one such commotion.”

In recognition of his work, Subramaniam will have his photo featured in the May issue of National Geographic magazine alongside Nat Geo’s leading photographers and receive a six-month digital subscription.

National Geographic selected nine additional photos as honorable mention winners: Alex Berger, An Li, Bruce Taubert, Eric Esterle, Rhez Solano, Riten Dharia, Tayfun Coskun, Tihomir Trichkov, and W. Kent Williamson. The honorable mention winners will be showcased on National Geographic’s Your Shot Instagram page to more than 6.5 million followers, in addition to receiving a six-month digital subscription to the magazine.

Aspen, United States, February 20, 2023 — IWC Schaffhausen’s “Friend of the Brand” and two-time Olympic gold medal freestyle skier Eileen Gu took to the slopes of Aspen, Colorado, with young skiers. Indicative of her ongoing commitment to inspiring future generations through her sport, Gu participated in a special ski training day organized by the Swiss luxury watchmaker and accompanied by local community skiers.

Gu joined the IWC family in August 2021 and became the youngest Olympic champion in freestyle skiing after winning two gold medals and a silver medal at Beijing’s 2022 Winter Olympics. A sought-after model and student at the prestigious Stanford University, the skier is a powerful advocate for improving representation and inclusion in her sport. She wants to inspire millions of young kids to pursue their ski dreams.

“I was so excited to spend the day on the mountains with this group of incredible skiers!” explained Gu. “So much about skiing comes down to confidence. It’s a super personal and expressive sport, so the more time you devote, the more it pays off in your ability. It was fantastic to share my passion - and some tips and tricks - with the young men and women here. I hope they got inspired to follow their dreams.”

While in action on the mountain, Gu chose to wear IWC Schaffhausen’s Pilot’s Watch Chronograph. This modern take on a classic design has an elegant, compact, 41-mm size stainless-steel case, a blue dial, and an IWC-manufactured movement.
