BOSTON, May 26, 2023 — Harvard Business School held its 113th Commencement exercises in Boston yesterday. In the morning, there was a celebration in Harvard’s Tercentenary Theatre, followed by a diploma ceremony at the Baker Library Bloomberg Center, where 984 students received their MBA degrees. Among them, 50 students (top five percent of the MBA Class of 2023) graduated with high distinction as Baker Scholars, named after the School’s initial benefactor, George Fisher Baker. Additionally, 82 students earned their diplomas with distinction, and 198 earned second-year honors.

Seven MBA graduates who received their degrees in March 2023 were honored at the occasion, including one Baker Scholar who graduated with high distinction, two others who graduated with distinction, and three others who received second-year honors. Twenty students in the doctoral program also graduated with PhDs in various disciplines, including business administration, business economics, organizational behavior, and health policy management. Three students graduated with PhDs in health policy management in March 2022, and three others in business administration, health policy management, and organizational behavior in November 2022.

During the ceremony, Dean Srikant Datar presented the 2023 Alumni Achievement Awards to five accomplished individuals, including Reshma Kewalramani, MD, FASN (GMP 18, 2015), CEO and president of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and Raymond J. McGuire (JD/MBA 1984), president of Lazard.

In his Commencement remarks, Dean Datar encouraged the new graduates to reflect on three important behaviors of leaders: active listening, thinking, and acting courageously. He expressed optimism that business can solve society’s most urgent problems and encouraged the graduates to embody the School’s mission as leaders who make a difference in the world.
