New Delhi, August 29, 2023 — Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister of Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, launched a new comic book called “Let’s Move Forward.”
Mr. Pradhan emphasized that this book would inspire students to prioritize their well-being while entertaining them through storytelling. The book promotes good health and wellness, critically emphasizing mental health. Dharmendra Pradhan also highlighted the significance of stories in promoting societal harmony and well-being.
Mr. Pradhan highlighted the value of collaborating with UNESCO during India’s G20 Presidency. He urged UNESCO to share Indian stories to benefit not only the youth of India but also the global community.
The comic book is a joint project by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and UNESCO New Delhi. It represents a significant step towards achieving the objectives of the School Health and Wellness Programme (SHWP).
“Let’s Move Forward” comic book serves as a guiding light for wellness centers in educational institutions. This comic book is designed for adolescents and covers vital information on 11 thematic components of the School Health and Wellness Program. These components include emotional well-being, interpersonal relationships, gender equality, nutrition and health, substance abuse prevention, healthy lifestyles, reproductive health, internet safety, and more.
The “Let’s Move Forward” comic book imparts life skills essential for promoting responsible and health-conscious adolescent behavior. This innovative approach not only disseminates health-related knowledge but also facilitates the acquisition of life skills necessary for comprehensive personal development. It is available in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odiya, Tamil, and Telugu.
The Ministry of Education, India, will distribute “Let’s Move Forward” comic book copies nationwide across educational and health institutions. Its distribution will encompass State School Education Departments, SCERTs, Colleges of Teacher Education (CTEs), Institutes of Advanced Study in Education (IASEs), District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), Block Institutes of Teacher Education (BITEs), and state health departments. Additionally, the comic books will be disseminated to the 29,000 schools affiliated with the CBSE, expanding its outreach. An electronic version of the comic book will also be accessible on the Ministry of Education (MoE), NCERT, UNESCO, and DIKSHA websites.

The first area focuses on improving learning outcomes for students, ensuring that they receive a high-quality education that prepares them for success in the future.
The second area emphasizes the importance of equity and inclusion, aiming to create a level playing field for all students, regardless of their background.
The third area highlights the need to enhance digital technology in education, recognizing technology’s pivotal role in modern-day learning.
The fourth area focuses on planning for crises and natural hazards, ensuring schools are well-equipped to handle emergencies and disruptions.
The fifth area emphasizes the importance of planning for skills and work transition, recognizing that the job market is constantly changing, and students must prepare for future challenges.
Finally, the sixth area focuses on promoting good governance and transparency in educational management and financing, ensuring that governments allocate resources effectively and efficiently to benefit students and educators.
Many factors affect education, from technological advancements to conflict and climate change. To ensure effective policy planning and implementation, education planners and managers must stay up-to-date with new approaches and tools and constantly update their practices.
UNESCO IIEP is a learning institute that stays abreast of new trends and contributes to how planning evolves. It helps countries achieve their education goals by using an integrated approach to capacity development and providing findings and experiences from its research and development, training, and technical cooperation.
UNESCO IIEP recognizes that using and managing data for planning is critical for education systems to be inclusive, transparent, resilient, flexible, and oriented to student learning.
UNESCO IIEP (UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning) is an arm of UNESCO created in 1963 in Paris, France. It develops the capacities of education actors to plan and manage their education systems through training, technical assistance, policy research, and knowledge-sharing programs. Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the Moon's surface, making India the first to land near the Moon's South Pole.
New Delhi, August 24, 2023 — India’s Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft landed at the Moon’s south pole on August 23, 2023, marking a significant achievement for India’s space program. The mission aims to study the composition of the lunar surface through soil and rock analysis. The spacecraft released a photo of the lunar surface.
After the Chandrayaan-3 lander successfully touched the lunar surface, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) released a photo. The Rover will conduct a two-week mission to study the Moon’s soil and rocks. India’s successful landing marks a significant achievement as the fourth country to land on the Moon and the first to touch down near the South Pole.
Head of the India Space Research Organization, Sreedhara Somanath, declared that India landed on the Moon while Prime Minister Narendra Modi waved India’s national flag, “Tiranga”.
Chandrayaan-3’s Lander-Rover has begun conducting experiments on the Moon’s surface, and the public can soon expect to see images of the Rover and Lander.

Baku, Azerbaijan, August 24, 2023 — Former world champion Magnus Carlsen defeated 18-year-old Indian prodigy R Praggnanandhaa in the World Cup Chess after two tie-breaks after a quiet draw in the second game of the finals. The match lasted about one and a half hours.
Carlsen won the crucial first rapid tiebreaker with black pieces in the evenly matched Giuoco Piano. Prag misplayed an attack on the black king in an even position, leading to an open and sharp endgame where he blundered in move 42.a6. Despite Carlsen’s suboptimal response, Prag continued to err in the next two moves, ultimately leading to his resignation on move 47.
Carlsen (playing as White) forced exchanges in a better position, resulting in a quiet game that ended in a draw on move 22, securing his first place.
The World Cup was the only major event Magnus Carlsen had not won in his career. He finished third in 2021. With this latest addition to his achievements, the world’s highest-rated player demonstrated that he is the ultimate force majeure of chess.

Walmart tops the FORTUNE 500 GLOBAL List for the 10th Consecutive Year.
For the 10th year, Walmart has come out on top of the FORTUNE 500 GLOBAL List. The energy sector was a prominent feature, with Saudi Aramco ranking second in revenue but first in profits, setting a new record for annual total earnings by a Fortune Global 500 company.
The 2023 ranking includes 142 Chinese companies, 136 from the United States, 41 from Japan, and 30 from Germany. However, Japan and France saw their lowest representation in the list’s history.
Leading U.S. companies such as Amazon, Apple, UnitedHealth, and CVS made it onto the FORTUNE list, with the United States boasting its highest number of companies since 2010 and ranking as the highest stand-alone country in 2023.
The number of female CEOs also increased slightly, from 24 in 2022 to 29 in 2023.
New additions to the list include Warner Bros. Discovery, Salesforce, Uber, Lufthansa, H.D. Hyundai, Daimler Truck, and China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology and Meituan. The list also features new energy and natural resource companies like Canadian Natural Resources.
NEW YORK, August 5, 2023 — Fortune has announced that Walmart, a U.S.-based retailer, has topped the 2023 Fortune Global 500 list, which ranks the world’s largest corporations by revenue for fiscal year 2022. It marks Walmart’s 10th consecutive year and 18th time since 1995, claiming the number one spot on the authoritative ranking of the current corporate world order. There has been a surge in the number of U.S. companies on the Global 500 this year, reaching its highest total since 2010 at 136 companies, which is the highest for a stand-alone country.
The strength of the global energy sector was evident as Saudi Aramco almost beat Walmart in the rankings. Saudi Aramco (No. 2) benefited from soaring energy prices caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which also propelled Exxon Mobil (No. 7) and Shell (No. 9) back into the top 10 by revenue. Saudi Aramco earned $159 billion in profits, the highest ever for any Fortune Global 500 company.
Big Tech continued to be a robust and profitable sector. Apple, Alphabet, and Microsoft generated $233 billion in net income, with Apple (No. 8) earning nearly $100 billion in profits, the most ever by a U.S. company.
There were 39 newcomers to this year’s Fortune Global 500, including 23 companies making their debut, such as Warner Bros. Discovery (No. 449) and the first-time Chinese companies Contemporary Amperex Technology (No. 292) and Meituan (No. 467). Sixteen companies returned to the list after at least a one-year hiatus, such as Colombia’s Ecopetrol (No. 397) and France’s Air Liquide (No. 488).
By geography, Chinese companies, including mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, top this year’s Global 500 with 142 companies. However, the 136 U.S. companies generated more revenue in 2022 than Greater China’s $11.7 trillion, with $13 trillion. An economic slump, tighter regulations, and the lingering impact of COVID restrictions in mainland China affected revenue at consumer-facing companies such as Alibaba (No. 68), Tencent (No. 147), and JD.com (No. 52).

The Fortune Global 500 companies have generated revenues of $41 trillion, which comprises more than one-third of the world’s GDP. It reflects an increase of 8% compared to the previous year, while the cumulative profits have decreased by 7% to $2.9 trillion. These companies are located in 232 cities and 33 countries/territories worldwide, employing 70.1 million people. The number of Fortune Global 500 women CEOs has increased from 24 to 29 this year.

The editor-in-chief, Alyson Shontell, notes that this year’s list has a theme of upending and dethroning even the largest companies in the world. Walmart, the world’s largest company by revenue for the past decade, is being challenged by Saudi Aramco, which has had a banner year due to the Ukraine war’s impact on oil and gas prices. The Saudi government is investing its profits in green-tech R&D and other industries.
The issue also highlights how Alphabet (No. 17) faces an innovator’s dilemma due to generative A.I. According to Shontell, Alphabet’s Google is threatened by this revolutionary technology that could impact the search business that has fueled its profit-making machine since the 2000s. Microsoft (No. 30) is the No. 1 Threatener because it partnered with ChatGPT creator OpenAI. Shontell suggests that whoever builds the best mousetrap in generative A.I. could transform how the world searches for information.
The Fortune Global 500 list editor, Scott DeCarlo, notes that the corporations on the list have shown their muscle in 2022, delivering record-high revenue and profits. However, technological change and scientific breakthroughs threaten established leaders and elevate emerging new winners.

Chandigarh University launches the Global School of Finance and Accounting.
CU to offer dual-degree courses in collaboration with UK-based accounting body ACCA, recognized in 180+ countries.

CHANDIGARH, India, Aug. 3, 2023 — Chandigarh University has launched the Global School of Finance and Accounting (GSFA) in collaboration with the UK-based accounting body Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
The school offers three dual-degree programs in Commerce and Management recognized in over 180 countries. These programs include B.Com.(H) with ACCA, M.Com.(H) with ACCA, and BBA (H) with ACCA. The courses are tailored to provide industry-relevant curricula in audit, taxation, risk analysis, and accounting and will enhance practical skills through hands-on exercises at Fin-Lab.
These degrees will enable graduates to work in specific domains for global financial and consulting firms. The school will also provide networking opportunities for students to connect with industry experts and potential employers.
Furthermore, the University will establish a Centre of Excellence in Digital Finance and Accounting.
Chandigarh University is a highly acclaimed educational institution and offers more than 109 undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various fields.
