Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor of Chitkara University, said that we at Chitkara always focus on implementing the NEP into the modern education system to meet the Industry 5.0 requirements. She gave her valuable insights about quality in higher education. She said that the most influential factor is human capital, expressed in the knowledge, skills, creative abilities, and moral attributes of individuals in society. In addition, policymakers increasingly view higher education institutions as economic engines that ensure knowledge production through research and innovation. She also shared her views about the quality of higher education. She said that education is now an instrument of change, as change is happening quicker than in older times.
Chitkara university focuses on multidisciplinary research and consultancy. So far, it has published 4000+ Scopus articles with more than 14000 citations. In addition, it has applied for 1800 patents, out of which 300 have been published and 150 granted.

• Kurukshetra University organizes a workshop on the NAAC assessment and accreditation process
In another similar event, Haryana Higher Education Department and Kurukshetra University organized a one-day state-level workshop on the “NAAC assessment and accreditation process” at the Kurukshetra University auditorium hall.
The Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education Department, Haryana, said that a good NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) rating was essential for an institution to build a promising student future. Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva said the NAAC ranking determined the quality of education, research standard, the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process, and the facilities offered to students by an institute.
Dr. Pratibha Singh, Deputy Adviser, NAAC, New Delhi, conducted the workshop for participants.
• Panjab University Chandigarh no longer NAAC accredited
The NAAC Accreditation of an institution in the region, Panjab University Chandigarh, has expired.
NAAC Administration’s latest ‘Accreditation Status of Universities’ shows that that institution has not initiated the accreditation renewal application process. Accordingly, it is no longer NAAC accredited.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) had, through a gazette notification dated January 19, 2013, made it mandatory for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to undergo accreditation. Accordingly, accreditation will now be required for higher education institutions (HEIs) to be eligible to receive grants and other financial assistance from the Central Government.
NAAC accreditation identifies the institute’s quality in terms of its education, research, faculty, and infrastructure, gives students confidence in selecting a quality institution, and provides instant credibility to a Higher Education Institution.

New Delhi, September 03, 2022 — University Grants Commission (UGC) India has published “Guidelines for Transforming Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) into Multidisciplinary Institutions.”
According to UGC, this program is the follow-up of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to control the fragmentation of Higher Education by transforming Higher Education Institutions into Multi-disciplinary Universities, Colleges, Clusters, and Knowledge Hubs.
The UGC Guidelines have classified Multi-disciplinary Institutions into three Types:
Multi-disciplinary research-intensive Universities (RUs)
Multi-disciplinary teaching-intensive Universities (TUs)
Degree-awarding, Multi-disciplinary Autonomous Colleges
Under the current structure, teaching occurs through colleges affiliated with universities. Universities design syllabi, conduct examinations, and award degrees. NEP 2020 recommends the transformation of all HEIs into large multi-disciplinary degree-awarding autonomous institutions.
Therefore, the UGC Guidelines have outlined the procedure and rules for consolidating existing HEIs into multi-disciplinary degree-granting independent colleges through cooperation and collaboration. Under this arrangement, students enrolled in an HEI can take up the first degree at the host institution and the second degree at the partnering institution leading to a dual degree.
Further, single-stream institutions would be able to integrate their programs with nearby multi-disciplinary institutions to enhance their curricula. In addition, the existing multi-disciplinary HEIs would be free to seek collaboration to expand further and add more programs.
The UGC Guidelines elaborate on how such a new and unexplored educational architecture will help strengthen the structure of multi-disciplinary education and achieve the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

BOSTON, Aug. 21, 2022 — Harvard Business School (HBS) announced today that it would provide scholarships to cover tuition and course fees for those with the greatest financial need—approximately 10 percent of its student body. It would make the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree more affordable and accessible to a broader array of students. The School will also offer scholarship support to more students from middle-income backgrounds, building on the approximately 50 percent of students who already receive scholarships. Both changes will benefit current, and future students and are the latest in a series of steps over the past decade to reduce financial barriers to enrolling in the two-year full-time MBA Program.
“We know the talent is much more evenly distributed than opportunity,” said HBS Dean Srikant Datar. “Harvard Business School should be a place where the most talented future leaders can come to realize their potential. We want to remove the financial barriers that stand in their way and alleviate the debt burden so they can focus on becoming leaders who make a difference in the world.”
Over the past several years, the School has worked to make the MBA Program more affordable for students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Recent approaches include:
“We recognize that financial concerns may keep exceptional potential applicants from considering business school as an option,” said Chad Losee, Managing Director of MBA Admissions and Financial Aid at HBS. “Given the impact, they are having in their companies and communities, that is a loss for them and society as a whole. By funding the full cost of tuition for students with the greatest financial need, we aim to ensure that prospective students from all socioeconomic backgrounds, industries, and parts of the world have access to the HBS experience.”
HBS has long granted financial aid through a need-based approach, unusual for graduate business schools. It uses a formula that considers pre-MBA income and assets, socioeconomic background, and undergraduate debt in determining financial needs for both domestic and international students.
With this additional commitment from the School, roughly 10 percent of all HBS students—those with the greatest financial need—will receive a full tuition and course fee scholarship of $76,000 each year of the two-year program. Students will continue to be responsible for their living expenses.
“Affordability is paramount because it enables people from all backgrounds, experiences, and interests to enroll at HBS,” said Matthew Weinzierl, Senior Associate Dean of the MBA Program. “Our case-based approach to teaching and learning relies heavily on exposing HBS students to various perspectives. As a result, we’re preparing them to be leaders in organizations and a world marked by vast human differences and diversity.”

New Delhi, August 03, 20212 — Lok Sabha (lower house of India’s bicameral Parliament) today passed Central Universities (Amendment) Bill 2022 for conversion of the National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), a Deemed to be University into Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), a Central University.
While replying in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Education and Skill Development, Dharmendra Pradhan, said that Prime Minister Modi always works with a vision for the future. Under his leadership, a future-ready workforce is ready to embrace the fourth industrial revolution and the challenges of the 21st century.

New Delhi, August 03, 2022 — University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a ‘FEE Refund Policy 2022-2023’ Notice to all Higher Educational Institutions, including all universities, colleges, and institutes in India.
In its communication, UGC has reminded them that on July 12, 2022, it had asked them to fix the last date of their undergraduate admission process after CBSE declared the class X result. As a result, it provided sufficient time for such students for admission to undergraduate courses.
UGC has told the higher education institutions to note that several entrance examinations, including CUET, JEE Main, and JEE Advance, have been delayed, due to which admissions may continue up to October 2022.
Given the above, and to avoid financial hardships the parents face, UGC has now decided that higher educational institutions should, as a special case, make a full refund of fees on account of all cancellations of admissions/migrations of students up to October 31, 2022, for the academic session 2022-2023.
Further, UGC has clarified that the entire fee, including all charges, should be refunded (i.e., there should be zero cancellation charges) on account of cancellations/migrations up to October 31, 2022. After that, on cancellation/withdrawal of admissions up to December 31, 2022, the entire fee collected from a student should be refunded in full after deducting not more than Rs. 1,000/- as a processing fee.
UGC has instructed all Higher Educational Institutions to ensure compliance with its directions regarding the refund of fees.

JUNE 30, PARIS - Education ministers and vice-ministers of 154 countries and nearly 2000 participants came together at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris to discuss transforming education, inspired by the rallying call from young people.
The Pre-Summit, a precursor to the Transforming Education Head of State-level Summit, convened by the UN Secretary-General in New York this September, comes after more than two years of the most massive disruption in learning in recorded history, brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The UNESCO meeting supports a global breakthrough to more sustainable, peaceful futures, as called for in the report on ‘Our Common Agenda.’
It sets out to tackle the education loss and the profound structural flaws of education systems worldwide. Halfway to the deadline to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal on Education, participants were adamant the world must not only get back on track but transform education from the ground up.
